Please reach us at info@novatherapy.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Please be informed that an elaborate explanation for therapy services provided at Nova Art Therapy and Psychotherapy Services will be accessible in our intake form and consent form prior to starting therapy.
This answer is best intended for your insurance provider to gain clarity on. In general, most insurance providers do reimburse psychotherapy services, typically under the Mental Health Services expense. If you find yourself in a situation where your insurance provider does not cover psychotherapy, please indicate this and we can provide an advocacy letter to share with them. If the letter is unsuccessful or you exhaust your coverage, the third option is to discuss with your Tax Accountant whether your receipts are eligible for medical expense deduction on your personal taxes.
Services are available to ages 12 and above. Everyone and anyone, within the age range, is welcome to access support here. Please review our "Services" and "Our Team" tab to determine compatibility.
Are you looking for someone under the age of 12, or out of the scope of practice offered here? I hope you still feel comfortable to reach out, as I may have an external colleague to recommend. Mental health should be accessible, and I empathize with the challenges of therapist shopping, so between my fellow classmates, colleagues, and networking amongst the years, I'm happy to do my part in supporting compatible connections.
At the moment, no. We are working at expanding services to meet the diverse needs of our clients that opt for in-person services. If inclined to begin in-person sessions, we can add you to a waitlist. Being on a waitlist requires no commitment, so you can opt out at any time. Currently, all appointments are scheduled virtually through our confidential Telehealth Platform on Jane App (a PHIPPA, PIPEDA, and HIPPA compliant platform intended for confidential services).
Virtual, also interchangeably known as Telehealth, can absolutely be a beneficial avenue to seeking therapy. Benefits clients have identified for virtual sessions include the ability to meet without the commute or the ability to meet despite distances (especially, when time is limited). Or, for those who have young children or pets that require close contact, in the event you are needed, you are available. Other benefits include the opportunity for the therapists to work with you in the privacy of your setting and to use screen sharing as a helpful tool for resources, psychoeducation, etc. Clients have found that the safety of a virtual space enables deeper access to material that is difficult to bring up or remember in person.
The frequency of therapy sessions will depend on your individual needs, expectation, and goals. Some clients may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may attend bi-weekly or even monthly. This can be further explored with your therapist.
Generally, starting a new regime or breaking a habit will take consistency, discipline, and exposure (time) to track progress. Using a common analogy: a new exercise goal, the first signal of progress is typically internally noticeable, then after a consecutive time will externally (peers) be recognizable, and finally you will establish a habit. Change is a gradually process. We don't notice the subtle changes of the seasons, but can reflect on the drastic changes when we reminisce. In our framework approach, we like to make frequent pauses, generally over 4-6 sessions, to allow time to reflect, ponder, and gain insights on the process achieved.
